Understanding P.O.A.M.

People on a Mission (POAM) is an interactive arts and entertainment collective that combines immersive storytelling, creative play, and real-world community-building to foster deeper connections and drive meaningful societal change.

Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to bring art and play to the masses while empowering our growing community of “Concerned Citizens” to explore how we can co-create a more resilient, connected society.

We accomplish this by designing experiences that are playful on the surface but deeply impactful at their core. Whether it's a quirky citywide mission, an absurd narrative escape room, or our variety show blending performance and commentary, we are constantly inviting people to step into a world where creativity, curiosity, and collaboration reign supreme.

Our approach is rooted in four core principles:

  1. Local Community Engagement: We ground our experiences in the unique joys and challenges of our city.
  2. Interactive Play: We create opportunities for people to rediscover the joy of curiosity and participation.
  3. Immersive Experiences: From the sidewalk to our fully designed spaces, we turn everyday environments into stages for exploration.
  4. Collaborative Creation: We believe art isn’t just something to consume; it’s something to create together.

Since our launch in August 2023, we’ve brought together nearly 1,900 players to participate in six missions. These include everything from solving puzzles and uncovering mysteries to attending live events and performances. Over 80% of our players have participated in multiple missions, demonstrating the depth of engagement and connection our experiences inspire.

Where We’re Headed

We are growing beyond phone-based missions to include immersive in-person experiences including community events and a live variety show—with the goal of securing our own space to build out as a third space and narrative escape room. These new directions will allow us to bring even more people into our world of playful storytelling and collaborative creation.

We believe that together, we can transform our cities into playgrounds of possibility and reimagine how we connect with the world and each other.
